PM never asked me to consult Sonia: Chidambaram on Baru's claims
PM's ex-advisor Sanjaya Baru has said in a book that Manmohan Singh was reduced to being an 'object of ridicule' under Sonia Gandhi.

New Delhi: The political class has reacted to Prime Minister's former media advisor Sanjaya Baru's claims in his latest book that PM Manmohan Singh was reduced to being an "object of ridicule" under the "super Prime Minister", Sonia Gandhi.

Below are some of the key reactions to his claims.

P Chidambaram, Finance Minister: I don't agree with Baru's assessment. For 10 years, I have never been told by the PM to ask 10 Janpath. He never asked 10 Janpath. Only political decisions were taken by Sonia Gandhi and the party.

Rajeev Shukla, Congress spokesperson: People do it to get commercial benefits at their ends. They have themselves clarified it.

Pankaj Pachauri, PM's media advisor: Baru has taken advantage of his former position. He has fabricated a lot of issues in his book. In a press meeting last October, the Prime Minister himself had warned that Baru should not be believed.

TSR Subramanian, former Cabinet secretary: There is nothing new in what he wrote. The PM did not have the decision-making power. This has been known to everybody. I don't think the book produced something new. All this is a reconfirmation of what we have been thinking from an insider.

Kamal Faruqui, former SP leader: If what he is saying is true, then where was his supposed moral high ground while he was in the PMO? He should have resigned right then itself. He was fine with things till the time he had the job, but turned into an activist thereafter. I strongly condemn it.

What's your reaction?
