TMC Suspends MLA Subhrangshu Roy, Son of Turncoat Mukul Roy, for 6 Years Over Anti-Party Comments
The two-time MLA from Bijpur assembly constituency had held a press conference earlier in the day in which he hailed his father's organisational skills.

Kolkata: Two-time Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Subhrangshu Roy from Bijpur in North 24 Parganas and son of turncoat BJP leader Mukul Roy was suspended on Friday for six years for making anti-party comments.

Roy is also said to have made derogatory comments against party secretary general Partha Chatterjee.

TMC has taken disciplinary action against Subhrangshu after he said, “Once he had said he is (Mukul Roy) kancharapara’s kanchra chheley (garbage boy of a garbage colony). Now people living in this Kanchrapara (in North 24-Parganas) have responded to it and there are other Roys who stays here.”

Accepting his failure in securing votes for TMC from Barrackpore Lok Sabha constituency, he further said, “While working on the ground in Bijpur, I forgot that this place is also close to my father (Mukul Roy). Based on the results (Lok Sabha), it seems that people accepted my father and rejected me.”

Hours after this media interaction, Subhrangshu was suspended for six-years by the party’s secretary general Partha Chatterjee.

“I got the news of my suspension in the evening. I don’t know why my party suspended me,” he told News18.

When asked whether he is planning to follow in his father’s footsteps and join the BJP, he said, “I haven’t decided anything yet. All I can say now is that I am free.”

Mukul Roy, however, refused to comment about Subhrangshu’s suspension. “He is capable to respond it himself,” he said.

Last year, Subhrangshu had slammed the BJP and his father of doing hate politics in Bengal.

Subhrangshu, had said, “People in Bengal never supports such people who indulge in such politics. Bengal is moving forward under the leadership of didi (Mamata Banerjee). In this Panchayat Poll people will cast their votes in large numbers to the TMC.”

On November 3, 2017, Mukul officially joined the BJP – after a fallout with Mamata Banerjee. His induction into the party was officially announced by senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya in a press conference, which was attended by Ravi Shankar Prasad.

At the time, Subhrangshu had said that my father took his decision and I have taken mine.

Mukul was known as “the trusted lieutenant” of Mamata Banerjee but differences between them surfaced after he was questioned by the CBI in the Saradha chit fund scam.

Names of several other TMC leaders also came out during the probe and then senior TMC leaders felt that Mukul is conspiring against the party to save himself.

The BJP bagged 18 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in Bengal, while the TMC managed 22 in a fiercely fought poll battle. Congress got two seats.
