No DC would say that a change of govt was needed, the charge has been made only to divert me from work: Madurai DC

Madurai: District Collector U Sahayam on Wednesday refuted the allegation that he had spoken about change of government in Tamil Nadu at a function in Madurai recently and said such a charge has been made only to divert him from election-related work.

Union Minister M K Alagiri had alleged that Sahayam stated that it was natural for the people to expect a change during the elections and that he would take it up with the Election Commission.

The collector told reporters on Wednesday that his speech at the Lady Doak College on March 24 had been recorded on video.

"Any person can listen to it, the charge has been made only to divert me from my work. It is the duty of every collector to work without any bias." He said.

He also said no district collector would say that a change of government was needed.

"I only told the students that they should create a fair society and a fair nation, and for that vote should be cast without taking any money, and 100 per cent voting should be ensured." he added.
