Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) MP Vijayashanti on Friday went into hiding as police tried to hunt and arrest her for making provocative remarks ahead of July 27 byelections to 12 assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh's Telangana region.
Tension prevailed at the actress-turned-politician's house in Banjara Hills here when a police team reached there in the evening to arrest her. High drama continued for nearly two hours as TRS activists resisted the police attempts to enter the house.
When police finally managed to get in, they did not find her. TRS workers raised slogans against the police and accused them of high-handedness.
A TRS leader said Vijayshanti was not well and was admitted to a hospital. He declined to name the hospital. The leader said she would soon surrender before the court.
Police were looking for the Medak MP in connection with a case booked against her at the directions of Election Commission for promoting animosity and hatred among people.
The case under sections 505 (2) and 153 (A) of Indian Penal Code was booked against her following a direction by the Election Commission.
The poll panel has also issued a notice to the MP, seeking clarification about her speech.
The TRS leader, while addressing party workers a few days ago, had called upon people in Telangana to "slay" anyone who opposed the formation of a Telangana state.
