Singer Brindha Sivakumar Reveals She Turned Down The Offer To Act In This R Madhavan Film
Unlike her father and brothers, Brindha Sivakumar chose to make a career out of singing.

Both the sons of yesteryear Tamil actor Sivakumar, Suriya and Karthi have followed in their father’s footsteps to become top actors in the industry, Both are now big and established stars in Tamil cinema while their sister and Sivakumar’s daughter Brindha Sivakumar is an established singer in the industry. Brindha did not venture into acting like her father and brothers and instead chose to make a career out of singing, although she started quite late in 2018, performing in films like Raatchasi, O2, Chandramouli, Jackpot and Ponmagal Vandhal.

However, did you know that she turned down an offer to become a lead actress in Tamil cinema more than 20 years ago? She confirmed the same in a recent interview with a Tamil channel and said that she had received an offer to act way before she started singing.

The movie that she was considered for was the 2002 film Kannathil Muthamittal starring R Madhavan and Simran. Highly acclaimed upon its release, the war drama premiered at the 2002 Toronto International Film Festival and was additionally screened at the 2003 San Francisco International Film Festival. But before Simran signed on to play the female lead, the role was offered to Brindha.

“Initially, I had the chance to sing for music composed by Karthik Raja but I had to decline as I was still in school at the time. Later, in 2002, I was offered a role in Mani Ratnam’s Kannathil Muthamittal opposite Madhavan. Sudha Kongara, who was then Mani Ratnam’s assistant director, approached me for the role,” Brindha said.

However, she turned down the role because she was not interested in acting and instead wanted to pursue singing as a career. According to her, Madhavan teases her to date about missing out on the opportunity to act opposite him. Brindha says that she never even enquired about what the role offered to her was about and that her brothers Suriya and Karthi teased her by saying it was the role of a mother of three children. Brindha said that the movie turned out very well and praised R Madhavan and Simran.
