How Arun Mohan Joshi Became The Youngest IPS Officer
Before taking charge of IPS, Arun Mohan Joshi served as the SSP in Haridwar, SP of Uttarkashi, ASP of Roorkee and DIG in Uttarakhand Vigilance department.

In a recent development, a number of officers got promotions and approval from the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) of the Indian Police Service in Uttarakhand. It includes IPS officer Sweety Aggarwal, IPS officer Anant Shankar Takwali Rajiv Swaroop Adhikari and IPS officer Arun Mohan Joshi. Among all the officers, IPS Arun Mohan Joshi took the major limelight for being the youngest IG (Inspector General) in the country.

The 2006 batch IPS officer Arun Mohan Joshi hails from the mountains of Chakrata, Uttarakhand. He became an IPS officer at the age of 23 in the year 2006. However, after IPS Joshi, several other officers registered their names on the list of becoming IPS at a young age.

In view of the IG rank, 2004 batch IPS officer Gaurav Rajput was known to be the youngest IG in the country who took the rank in the year 2022, at the age of 41. Following the same, Arun Mohan Joshi now becomes the youngest as he is currently 40 to take the IG rank.

As per the reports, IPS Joshi was born in a small village in the Chakrata area named Mundhaul. It is considered in the Jaunsar Bawar’s tribal area. Joshi belongs to a middle-class family wherein he has three brothers and a sister. As there was no such educational institution in his area, Joshi completed his schooling and college in Haridwar and Dehradun. Later, Joshi pursued engineering at IIT Roorkee.

Talking about his family’s condition, Joshi lost his mother when he was very young, hence his sister took charge of managing the household. On the other hand, he mentions that his father motivated him to become a policeman.

Prior to becoming an IPS officer, Arun Mohan Joshi was appointed as the SSP of Haridwar, where he played a crucial role during the Kanwar Mela in the city. Besides, he is also known for his heroic activities in the locality of Haridwar as he rescued a missing girl from Mumbai and arrested the culprits. Previously, he has also served as the SP of Uttarkashi, ASP of Roorkee and many other Kumaon divisions across the state.

While talking about his experience, IPS Arun Mohan Joshi mentioned that he has been happy in every posting that he has served so far. Considering PSC, the post of DIG in Uttarakhand Vigilance or SP or even SSP, he has got to learn new things in all of his postings.
