Apple Has Made It Easier Than Ever to Transfer iCloud Photos, Videos to Google Photos
The new photo transfer service from Apple is only available in US, Canada, Australia, European Region, Iceland, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, and the UK initially.

Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has released a new tool that will let users transfer their photos and videos stored in iCloud to Google Photos with just a few clicks. While there was already a provision to upload local photos on Google Photos through the official iOS app, it wasn’t easy to migrate the existing iCloud library to Google, with the only option being left for users was to download all their photos manually on their iPhone or Mac and then upload them to Google Photos.

Apple’s new service now makes this process easier. If a user wishes to move their media to Google Photos, they can now simply go to privacy.apple.com and sign in from their Apple ID. From there, they will have to select “transfer a copy of your data” and follow the instructions on screen. The tool will show a total count of photos and videos, along with the amount of storage they are using before a user initiates the transfer. Apple says that the transfer can take anywhere between three days to seven days. Users will be notified via email when their transfer is complete.

The existing iCloud library won’t get affected as this new service from Apple just transfers a copy of your photos and videos. The file formats supported by this new service include jpg, png, webp, gif, RAW files, 3gp, mp4, mkv, and more. Apple says that things like shared albums, smart albums, live photos, some metadata, and photo stream content won’t be transferred at all.

The new photo transfer service is only available in US, Canada, Australia, European Region, Iceland, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, and the UK initially.
