Google Photos App To Soon Get New 'My Week' Feature: What It Does
Google Photos app could get a new feature in the next few weeks which could be similar to Instagram Stories.

Google is working on an exciting new feature for its Photos application. According to a report by Android Authority, Google Photos may soon offer a new sharing feature called My Week. This feature will allow users to share weekly memories with friends and family, similar to Instagram Stories, by selecting and highlighting their favourite photos.

The media outlet further reported that code sleuth Assemble Debug managed to enable the My Week feature in the latest version of the Google Photos app. Once this feature is available to all users, a tile will appear in the top left corner of the Memories carousel, displaying “Introducing My Week” alongside your avatar and a ‘+’ button.

Tapping on the tile opens a setup wizard that brings a user’s last couple of weeks to life and helps them select photos they wish to share.

The report adds that the feature also lets users send invites to other Google Photos users to view their weekly memories, similar to stories on Instagram. Once set up, the photos will appear on a dedicated card in the Memories carousel. Users can tap on it to access a new My Week section to view photos shared in previous weeks, add more photos and send messages to invited contacts. They can also like and leave comments on these photo highlights.

Apart from the new week feature in Google Photos, the company has also rolled out a few minor changes. These include UI changes for photo details that show if the photo is part of an album or memory and an update for the Places section with a new map at the top.

Meanwhile, Apple and Google have teamed up to introduce a new data transfer tool. This seamless migration tool has significantly improved the transferring process of cherished memories from Google Photos to iCloud Photos without hassle. The new data transfer tool is part of the Data Transfer Initiative, aimed at providing users with more control over their data by simplifying the transfer process between different services.
