The foldable tablet trend seems to be catching up, as a new leak suggests that Xiaomi is preparing a device of its own. According to a video shared by popular tipster Evan Blass, we can see a device that looks like an early prototype, folding down to the size of a smartphone.
Now Blass does say that he isn’t too sure about the authenticity of the video, but the device is allegedly made by Xiaomi. That seems quite evident as the interface on the device does resemble MIUI 10. It could be a complete fluke, but there are some things that are noteworthy.
Can't speak to the authenticity of this video or device, but it's allegedly made by Xiaomi, I'm told. Hot new phone, or gadget porn deepfake? pic.twitter.com/qwFogWiE2F — Evan Blass (@evleaks) January 3, 2019
If you look closely, you can see the two creases before the device is folded. Also, unlike some of the folding tablets and concepts, this one folds from the left and right, and more than a fold it seems to be wrapping around the back. The UI (user interface) seems to respond well to the folds and as we mentioned before, resembles Xiaomi’s MIUI 10.
Back in November, Samsung had showcased its first foldable device which was a handset that could convert into a tablet by making use of two displays. The company had announced a flexible OLED panel called the ‘Infinity Flex Display’ which was a 7.3-inch main panel which once folded, converted into a regular compact smartphone.
Right before Samsung, a company by the name Royole, had introduced the world's first tablet with a foldable display. Called the FlexPai, it used a flexible screen that could fold the device like a wallet. The product had just one 7.8-inch display with a 1920x1440 resolution which could be folded and used in a vertical form factor like a regular smartphone.
