Samsung has announced the release of the world's first Universal Flash Storage (UFS) removable memory card.
Set to replace the microSD, the range will offer storage capacities of 32, 64, 128 and 256 gigabyte (GB) and can be used in high-resolution mobile shooting devices such as DSLRs, 3D VR cameras, action cams and drones.
With its new performance improvements, Samsung promises that the 256 GB UFS card, the maximum capacity available, will significantly reduce multimedia data downloading time, photo thumbnail loading time and buffer clearing time.
The cards will give consumers the ability to read a 5 GB, Full-HD movie in approximately 10 seconds, compared to a typical UHS-1 microSD card, which would take over 50 seconds, and for DSLR camera users, to shoot 24 large/extra fine JPEG photographs will now take less than seven seconds with the 256 GB UFS card, compared to a UHS-1 microSD card which typically takes about 32 seconds.
Users will have to wait to get their hands on one however, as the company has yet to announce the price and availability of the new cards.
