After embracing motherhood in December last year, TV actor Sugandha Mishra has been enjoying the new phase of her life with her newborn daughter. Sugandha rose to fame with her comic stint in The Kapil Sharma Show, where she met Sanket Bhonsale. After dating for a few years, the duo tied the knot in 2021 and welcomed their first child in 2023. Ever since then, the couple has been sharing glimpses of their cute little angel on social media.
Due to her pregnancy, Sugandha had to keep her professional life aside for some time. She recently made her comeback with the show Madness Machayenge: India Ko Hasayenge after her daughter’s birth.
Recently while talking to ETimesTV the actress opened up about her acting comeback after a short hiatus, also she expressed her concerns about appearing on television because of the 12kg weight gain after pregnancy.
She said, “When the offer came to me initially I’d say no to it, but my family pushed me and motivated me to do it. When you’re working for a TV show you’ve to be part of the reading sessions, visit the office and be a part of the technical rehearsals, it’s very time-consuming. You’ve to learn the script and perform it in one go. Initially, I felt I wouldn’t be able to memorize the script like before as I was working with a mom’s brain. I had started to forget many things and remembered the things only related to my daughter.”
Sugandha further shared that she was very worried about how she would appear on the screen. “I had gained a lot of weight. I started feeling that now I’ve become very fat, how can I appear on the screen? People around me kept reminding me that I’d put on weight. However, my family never made me feel like that, but when I used to step out and meet people they say ‘Aap to itne mote ho gaye ho, aap to pehle itne patle hua karte the, ab kya ho gaya?’ (You’ve become so fat, you used to be thin earlier, what happened now?). We can’t keep telling everyone that I’ve become a mother. I just answer them ‘Main khaate peete ghar ki hoon’ (I belong to a family who loves to eat). I was worried about coming on screen, I had gained 12 kgs and a lot of things were going on in my head. Luckily, comedy has nothing to do with weight or appearance,” she added.
The actress also revealed that the team of her new show was very supportive and also arranged a special room for her daughter on the sets. “I didn’t feel the guilt of leaving her at home as she was with me all the time, even on the sets. But for some other shoot, when I had to leave her at home I used to feel terrible. Now, if I’m sitting idle for half an hour, I panic. Why am I here? This is a waste of time. These are some changes I noticed in myself,” Sugandha said.
Apart from The Kapil Sharma Show, she has also appeared in TV shows like The Voice India Season 2, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, Comedy Circus Ke Taansen and Gangs of Filmistan.
