Tennis fans were sent into a frenzy when Argentina stars Gabriela Sabatini and Juan Martin Del Potro were spotted together at an event celebrating 100 years of the Argentinian Olympic Committee. Both former players are rumoured to be dating each other for a long time. Sabatini often shares pictures with Del Potro on social media, keeping her fans updated about her personal life. She was the one who dropped some glimpses of the star-studded event of the Argentinian Olympic Committee in December last year.

“What an honour to be part of this Olympic family and Argentine sport. Congratulations for these 100 years,” Sabatini wrote in the caption of the post. Wearing a gorgeous, dark slip dress, the 53-year-old was seen smilingly posing alongside Del Potro, who picked up a classy, black suit for the event.

She was also pictured alongside Argentine singer Abel Pintos in one of those photos going viral on the internet.

Gabriela Sabatini started her tennis career early like many of her contemporaries from the late 1980s and mid 1990s. She developed a liking for sport at six years of age. She won her first tournament two years later after which she went on to become the youngest player to win the prestigious Orange Bowl at the age of 13. She achieved the number one junior ranking in the world in 1984.

At 13, Sabatini moved to the United States to continue her career in professional Tennis. She was widely known for her well-groomed strokes, including a lighting topspin and a sweeping one-handed backhand.

Gabriela Sabatini was a regular feature in the semi-finals of all the major Grand Slam events. She won the Wimbledon doubles in 1988 but a singles title eluded her. After a series of disappointments, Sabatini won her first major singles slam in the 1990 US Open. Six years later, the Argentine retired from professional tour.

Speaking of Juan Martin Del Potro, the former player is also amongst the most recognisable Argentine tennis stars. Standing at a height of six feet and six inches, Del Potro was known for being a right-handed aggressive baseliner. His big serve and forehand could blow off any player off the court but a series of injuries kept the star from winning multiple Grand Slams. Just like his partner, Del Potro has also found success in the US Open, winning the tournament in 2009. The highest ranking that the player had cracked was world number three.

Regardless of the setbacks, Juan Martin Del Potro is widely supported in Argentina. After all, he was at the end of bagging the Latin American nation’s first-ever Davis Cup in 2016. He also won an Olympic bronze in 2012 and a silver in 2016.
