In a surprising occurrence at Mexico International Airport, an Aeromexico passenger caused a major chaos by opening the emergency exit door and walking on the plane’s wing. This incident reportedly took place while the aircraft was stationary, awaiting takeoff to Guatemala City. The man took this drastic action following a nearly five-hour delay, during which passengers endured discomfort without air conditioning or water. However, upon re-entering the plane, the individual was apprehended by local police, in compliance with international security regulations.

The airport confirmed that the passenger voluntarily surrendered to the authorities, as reported by the BBC. The statement also indicated that the passenger’s actions, while unconventional, did not harm the aircraft or fellow passengers.

Despite the subsequent police intervention, fellow travellers united to issue a collective statement supporting the man’s actions, and said that he attempted to save lives. The person who opened the emergency exit did so for the safety of everyone on board, citing the prolonged wait and lack of ventilation as health hazards, said the handwritten statement by the passengers on board, reports Travel and Tour World.

According to the passengers, the prolonged delay and lack of adequate air circulation posed health risks.

Various videos and images capturing the incident were widely shared on X (Formerly Twitter), gaining viral traction. The post, shared on January 27, has garnered over three lakh views. One video also shows a passenger in an argument with one of the cabin crew on the flight. Commenters expressed solidarity, with some stating they would have taken similar actions in such circumstances.

Criticism was also directed at Aeroméxico’s service, with a passenger citing a previous 36-hour flight delay and the airline’s lack of responsiveness.

Despite the widespread attention, the identity of the passenger remains undisclosed, and airport authorities have chosen not to comment on his current legal status. Flight tracking data confirmed a delay of four hours and 56 minutes for flight AM672 bound for Guatemala City.
