Dating App Romance Turns Awkward As Woman Matches With Her Cousin

A young woman’s online romance took a shocking turn when she found out that her new love interest was her cousin. The woman, who shared her story on Reddit, recounted how she decided to re-join the dating app after some time off. She was excited to connect with someone who seemed like a perfect match. Their conversations flowed effortlessly, and they quickly moved from messaging on the app to Face Timing. However, things took a turn when the man’s surname came up during one of their FaceTime calls.

She wrote, “I started talking to this guy and honestly, the conversation was great and we got along well. We had a lot of things in common and just really good vibes.”

Although the man lived in a town where part of her family was from, she hadn’t paid much attention to it since she wasn’t very close to that side of her family. It was only when his surname was mentioned that she started feeling uneasy. The man’s casual mention of a family connection prompted her to panic.

“I got really quiet, and he asked if I knew his cousin. That’s when it hit me, and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is not good,’” she recalled. After this, she ended the call abruptly and rushed to block him on Facebook, just to prevent any further complications.

Despite their connection being more through marriage rather than direct blood relation, she still felt uncomfortable. She wrote, “I got rid of him on the dating app and was freaking out so hard. The more I thought about it, the more I realized it was weird. I’m relieved we figured this out before anything went further.”

The woman also revealed that she doesn’t know if he’s her cousin as she believes he might be the child of her dad’s sister’s husband’s family, possibly his brother’s child. She further cancelled their planned date and blocked him because she was uncomfortable with the situation. She concluded her post with, “Matched with my cousin and, after a few days of talking, realised I could never show my face at a family function again.”
