In June 2020, J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, faced criticism for her controversial statements about the transgender community. Her assertion that transgender women “are not women” has drawn a lot of criticism in recent years. However, tech billionaire Elon Musk is one individual who has supported many of Rowling’s viewpoints.
As of late, Rowling has maintained that allowing kids to go through puberty is the “best cure” for gender dysphoria. Musk quickly sided with her, declaring the author was “absolutely right.”
Referring to a report by the Society for Evidence-Based Gender Medicine, Rowling wrote on X that, “The vast majority of children grow out of gender dysphoria if allowed to go through puberty. The single best cure is letting nature take its course.”
This is false. The vast majority of children grow out of gender dysphoria if allowed to go through puberty. The single best cure is letting nature take its course.https://t.co/NlGjYwULLm— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) July 17, 2024
Musk posted on X, addressing an article on the subject, saying, “Well, JK Rowling is absolutely right!”
The CEO of SpaceX continued, saying that practically all children experience some form of “identity crisis” throughout puberty and that it would be “deeply wrong” to use “puberty blockers” to render them “permanently infertile”. Musk claimed that if they are completely aware of the hazards and still choose to “transition” as adults, they can thereafter make judgements as “consenting adults.”

Rowling made her comment during a discussion with Dr Jack Turban concerning paediatric gender medicine. As a well-known proponent of the “gender-affirming care” protocol, Dr. Turban has advocated in the American media for the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to address young people’s gender-related distress.
Although there were few other voices endorsing or criticising “gender-affirming care,” one user declared, “In terms of necessity there is literally over 100 years of evidence that transitioning lessens or cures gender dysphoria and is the only thing that has been shown to do that in over 100 years of research and other attempts at curing it.”

In response, Rowling made the aforementioned comments and included research from the non-profit Society for Evidence-Based Gender Medicine, which is well-known for its objections to gender-affirming care for transgender youngsters and political lobbying activities.
