Farmer Starts Saffron Cultivation In Bikaner, Sells 1 Kg For Rs 4 Lakh
The Rajasthan farmer followed the aeroponics technique to grow saffron.

Saffron is known as the most expensive spice in the world, since it is cultivated during cool seasons. It requires a tedious process, even after that only a little of it is obtained. Amazingly, a young man from Rajasthan was able to grow this crop in the desert region of Bikaner. In our country, saffron is cultivated in a region like Kashmir, which provides a colder environment for its growth. This young man named Sunil Jajda from Rajasthan, successfully performed an experiment, growing this crop in the desert area of Bikaner. As per the reports, to grow saffron in such hot regions Sunil followed the aeroponics technique. He created a similar environment to the regions of Kashmir in a room, carrying the minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius with 80 percent humidity. Sunil artificially grew saffron in a 10 x 18 feet room.

In an exclusive conversation with Local18, Sunil revealed that during the time of lockdown, he delved into saffron cultivation research. He found out that with the help of the aeroponics technique, saffron can grow anywhere. So, in 2020 he started his trials to grow saffron with this method and finally saw success, thanks to the technique. More reports state that around Rs 6 lakh were spent on this technique and it even gave them profits worth Rs 4 lakh. This successful outcome pushed Sunil forward to continue with the work.

According to him, he had to buy saffron to start its cultivation and now he can simply use his home grown saffron being produced every year. To maintain the temperature and humidity for flower blooming, you need the UV ultraviolet light in the aeroponics designed room. And the temperature is to be changed twice in a day.

Sunil stated that farming is his ancestral work, so initially he thought of doing modern farming along with traditional farming. But discovered that saffron provides more profit in less space.
