The world is full of wonders. Some places shelter habitats which are hard to construct while others live on a tree house. Similarly, Mainpat of Surguja district of Chhattisgarh is one of the most beautiful places to visit. It is also called ‘Shimla of Chhattisgarh’. Due to the scenic beauty and pleasant environment, tourists often flock to this place to snap selfies and photos.
There are many famous places to see in Mainpat including Tiger Point, Mehta Point, Daldali, and Fish Point. Among these, the one that garners the attention of the tourists is the opposite stream of water which flows in Bisarpani village of Mainpat. It is also called Ulta Pani by many locals. The water flows upside down here.
The water flows from bottom to top, in the opposite direction of the slope. This place also fails the law of gravity. Here a small stone is emerging from under the water, where instead of flowing down the hill, it flows in the opposite direction, upwards. This is why this place got the name ‘Ulta Pani’.
The reason behind this phenomenon still needs to be discovered by many scientists. It can be due to the demography of Bilaspur village. Many believe that it is a miracle by god. The small stream starts from a hillock and flows uphill for a few metres before flowing downhill again. A signboard saying “Udgam sthal” (meaning starting point) that shows zero metres. They have perhaps taken this altitude as the starting point and standardised it at zero.
After the stream flows for a few metres, another board says Antim Kser shows 185 metres. If you put a grass blade or a piece of paper in the stream, they flow in the reverse direction. The piece of the paper flows towards the endpoint away from the Udgam Sthal.
The opposite stream of water is not the only miracle phenomenon in Manipat, Chhattisgarh. If any vehicle, motorcycle or car is parked upside down in neutral (without gear), it unexpectedly starts climbing up the slope on its own rather than falling. Bisarpani village is located 40 km from Ambikapur and 9 km from Mainpat.
