Ellis, who returned to India after 36 years, recalled his warm welcome by the President, emphasising the personal connections he made alongside his diplomatic duties. The video he has shared has him narrating all the memorable, humorous instances and some moments of pride he felt during his stay in India. In the video, Ellis revealed his appreciation for classic Hindi cinema, citing films like Chupke Chupke and Sholay as his favourite films. He also shared his attempts at singing songs by the legendary Kishore Kumar, even giving a rendition of the popular song Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas.

Cricket, a sport integral to both the UK and India, was another highlight of Ellis’s tenure. He expressed his excitement about meeting Indian cricket icon Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid, highlighting the blend of official and personal experiences during his stay. “What a star, he taught me a little Kanadda as well,” Ellis mentioned while talking about Dravid.

One of the more humorous and relatable moments Ellis shared was an ‘oops’ moment during UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s visit to India for the G20 summit. He recounted how he handled a wardrobe malfunction – a rip in his trousers – with grace and professionalism.

He went on to share his love for Indian food saying, “Great food, one of the ways India expresses its diversity is food.”

From enjoying local delicacies like dosa and vada pav in Mumbai to navigating unexpected challenges, Ellis’s time in India was filled with moments that went beyond diplomacy.

His farewell message, viewed over 30.5 thousand times, not only the ties between the UK and India but also showcased the personal growth and connections he experienced during his tenure.

“I loved communicating with people here. I thank you to everyone. It is such a rich thing be a part of this country,” he concluded.
