A man, eagerly planning his stay in Bengaluru, took the practical step of pre booking a hotel to avoid any last minute hassles. Unfortunately, his expectation turned to frustration upon discovering that the hotel he had booked through MakeMyTrip and Oyo Rooms was still undergoing renovation upon his arrival. The dissatisfied digital marketer took to social media platform X (Formerly Twitter) to complain about the situation and expressed dissatisfaction with both booking platforms. Narrating the incident, he claimed that he had booked a room via MakeMyTrip for an Oyo hotel, only to find a construction site upon reaching the location and there was no one in sight to assist him. To make the issue worse, an amount was also deducted from his refund, leaving him more frustrated.
The person criticised the booking platforms and compared the situation with cheating. He also shared numerous pictures of the disappointing sight of the hotel and his booking details. Sharing the information, he wrote, “MakeMyTrip and Oyo Rooms scam alert in Bengaluru. Just came here to find that the hotel I had booked is under renovation. There was not a living soul here. This is tantamount to cheating. After wasting 2 hours here they cut money from my refund. Shame on you.”

Soon after the X user shared his dissatisfaction regarding his unfortunate hotel booking experience, he provided an update in the same post. The user revealed that representatives from both Oyo and MakeMyTrip had reached out to him through calls and emails. According to the update, the refund for the problematic booking had been processed, although it was yet to reflect in his bank account. The user promised to keep others informed by providing more updates on the situation.
Update – Both Oyo and MMT reps have reached out to me multiple times on calls and via email. The refund apparently has been processed but yet to hit my account. Will update here once it does.— Amit Chansikar (@TheChanceSeeker) February 11, 2024
Later, additional social media users joined the conversation and criticised both Oyo and MakeMyTrip, by sharing their own negative experiences with the booking platforms.
A user recounted a similar experience of being stranded with their family late at night in an Oyo hotel. This unpleasant incident led them to never make a booking with Oyo in the future.
Once I faced similar situation, the only difference was I was with family at 1:00 AM at night and there there was no one in the OYO hotel to attend or guide me to the room. No idea of reception, total silent. From that day onwards, I took the pledge, I will never book OYO.— Arun Yadav (@ArunYadav080787) February 12, 2024
Another expressed frustration with Oyo and claimed that ignoring refund requests is their major issue.

A user stated his amount was deducted on January 26, 2024, but MakeMyTrip is yet to send his refund amount, even after multiple email inquiries.
