Ben Gransmore was getting sick of losing his coats at nightclubs. After losing three coats in a row, he decided to put an AirTag inside his North Face coat worth £300 (approximately Rs 27,000). An AirTag is a small Bluetooth tracker made by Apple that one can attach to their keys, luggage, or other expensive items. Ben was partying at a nightclub named Mojo in Manchester, England, last Saturday (March 2) when his expensive coat again went missing. However this time, he was able to see that his coat was at a location in Wigan.
Instead of alerting the police, Ben decided to retrieve his coat himself by driving 35 kilometres to Wigan and tracking his coat with the AirTag. The 29-year-old was joined by his friend Henry Jones as they headed to Wigan. Ben made a TikTok video about this coat-retrieving mission that has now gone viral.
The duo finally reached outside a house that showed that the coat was inside. They could hear the AirTag’s alarm from the house, but when they knocked on the door, no one answered even on a Sunday morning. However, the duo kept banging on the door.
Recalling this incident, Ben said in his TikTok video, “We banged on the door as much as we could and no one was answering, but then the TV went off. So they were playing a bit, being a bit kind of shady. Then we stood outside. I rang the doorbell and then finally I saw a little face in the window.”
Once they got someone’s attention from the house, Ben straight up told them to return his coat and said, “You’ve got a coat in there can I have it back? Because you were out at Mojo in Manchester last night with this geezer.”
The woman immediately threw the coat outside from the window. She then explained that they might have picked up the coat accidentally as they were very drunk at the nightclub. After getting back his coat, Ben advised people against leaving their expensive coats unattended at pubs in Manchester. While concluding the video, he said, “Life lesson learnt. Don’t ever put your coat down when you go out in Manchester because you get people like that who just take them and that is why I AirTag my coats.”
