All around the world, many unique and strange places have been left abandoned by people. These places have no traces of humans living there and have been left in ruins. Recently, an abandoned town that looks just like something out of a Disney movie has been making rounds on social media. The town is called Burj Al Babas and is located in the northwest region of Bolu, Turkey. The town was developed across 250 acres and cost an enormous £160 million. But soon, the town was abandoned after the construction company was shut down after losing a lot of money after the project.

The construction of Burj Al Babas started in 2014, and the building firm had plans to include a shopping centre, a waterpark complete with slides and streams, as well as indoor pools, baths, and saunas. If the town had been fully developed, it would have a breathtaking location, featuring fairytale-style rooftops and balconies with views of the sea. Initially, only 60 per cent of the construction work was completed before the company went bankrupt. When the first phase of the project was completed, they had plans to sell the luxury homes for between £275,574 and £394,741. The company also hoped that they would complete the entire project in four years. But in 2018, the sales of the project started to drop, and the developers behind the complex were declared bankrupt before it had been completed. It was found that the town was left with 530 partially developed houses.

In 2018, Mehmet Emin Yerdelen, who is the chairman of Sarot Properties Group, spoke to a local media channel, Hurriyet Daily News, and revealed that the project collapsed because people refused to pay the entire amount after paying the initial deposit. He said, “We couldn’t get about £5,585,662 in receivables for the villas we have sold to Gulf countries.”

The Burj Al Babas town is still empty, and the beautiful houses are still abandoned. The only people who visit here are the locals and some tourists who wander around the area to marvel at the abandoned site.
