Watch: Kevin Pietersen Tries His Hand At Gully Cricket, Desis Are Super Excited
The clip of Kevin Pietersen getting out during gully cricket is a snippet from a video by YouTuber Ayush Bhola.

Cricket, often referred to as the gentleman’s game, has multiple rules related to batting, fielding or bowling. But when it comes to gully cricket, each team comes up with their own set of guidelines according to the place and means. The games are played by improvising rules as they take place in narrow lanes instead of sprawling cricket grounds. Many cricket lovers have fond memories of playing gully cricket while growing up. Recently, former England skipper Kevin Pietersen tried his hand at gully cricket.

The England great joined YouTuber Ayush Bhola and others as they shot a skit about the many ever-changing rules of gully cricket. Now, a clip from this skit is raking in likes. The video shows Pietersen batting when the wicketkeeper behind him relocates the chair, which was acting as a makeshift wicket, just in time for the ball to hit it. This sly move of changing the ‘wicket’ and outing Pietersen was shared on X by popular cricket-centric account Cricketopia. The video shows Pietersen’s confused reaction at getting out after cheating by the wicketkeeper.

This clip has over one lakh likes since it was shared on May 22. Commenting on it, an X user wrote, “English batter being treated the way they treated the New Zealand cricket team in the 2019 WC final.”

An X user shared a counter tip that can help one navigate such unfair “out” judgment during gully cricket and wrote, “Whose bat is that? If it’s Kevin Pietersen’s, then he should say it’s a trial ball and play until he gets out and takes the bat along with him…”

Someone else wrote, “I might start watching if something like this is actually introduced in the game. Bowlers need something too.”

An X user asked, “How many of you have done this during play? Haha maine to bahut baar kiya hai but pakda jata tha haha.” This translates to “How many of you have done this during play? Haha I used to do this a lot but I would also get caught.”

Pietersen was in India back in April, as he attended the 2024 IPL matches. He visited cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru during his stay. Before his retirement from professional cricket in 2018, Pietersen took part in multiple seasons of IPL for teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Rising Pune Supergiant and others.
