A BHU student named Ashish from Kashi (Varanasi) had his life changed when he once went to Vrindavan for darshan about 9 years ago, bowed his head in the temple, and was impressed by Meera Bai’s devotion to Lord Krishna.
Ashish considered Kathak as his life. After coming to Vrindavan, he started practising Kathak with trueness. As people learned about him, they started joining his dance classes. He was then called Nritya Manjari Das in Vrindavan, a well-known name today. He gained fame in Kathak in India as well as abroad. He comes to Meera Bai’s temple of Vrindavan every day to practice Kathak.
When he spoke about his coming to Vrindavan and Kathak dance, he said that after his father Chandra Kumar Singh passed away in 2015, Ashish kept listening to Shrimad Bhagwat Maha Purana continuously. From there, his desire to visit Vrindavan arose. He reached Vrindavan in 2016, but his mind got stuck there and he decided to stay there for the rest of his life. He also got a chance to take part in a Kathak dance workshop.
After that, Ashish made arrangements for his stay in an ashram in Vrindavan. Sushila Devi of Basant Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Banaras helped him to get shelter in the ashram. After that, Ashish got devoted to lord Krishna and started practising Kathak dance at the Bhakti Shiromani Meera Bai’s bhajan sthali. He started Kathak practice in 2016 and is continuing to date.
Ashish got a new name in Vrindavan itself and he is called Nritya Manjari Das today. He dedicated his art to dancing at the feet of lord Krishna from 2007 to 2012 in the temple of Tirupati Bala Ji located at Bala Ji Ghat in Varanasi. Even, he feels blessed to serve lord Krishna and consider it as a gift from Kashi Vishwanath. Not only this, he has taught kathak to a dozen of foreign devotees.
