A woman from Winnipeg, Canada, thought she had scored the best deal of her life at a local thrift store. Ashlee believed she had purchased an original Hermes bag for around $7 (around Rs 587). However, when she got home, she discovered, upon closer inspection, it was a fake, according to Newsweek.
Hermes handbags are some of the priciest bags available worldwide. Their starting price is $10,000 (about Rs 8,00,000), and they can run into hundreds of thousands of dollars depending on the model and features.
In a TikTok video, the woman is shown rummaging through bags at a local thrift store when she notices a red leather bag that appears to be quite familiar. Ashlee then opens the bag and notices that it says Hermes on the label. She seemed completely taken aback, knowing that the bag cost less than $10 (about Rs 840). “It’s a Hermes. It has a little stain on the front, but it’s not a big deal,” the woman says in the video as per Newsweek. She eventually recognised it was a fake one.
“This bag unfortunately ended up being fake; it was real leather and felt like good quality. But I have found authentic Louis Vuitton and Chanel bags at the thrift store previously,” the woman said while speaking to the outlet according to the publication.
“You never know what amazing things you can find! It’s a great way to replenish your wardrobe and furnish your home on a budget, and it’s an excellent way to earn some extra money by selling on Facebook Marketplace or eBay!” the woman remarked as per Newsweek.
Reportedly, several TikTok users thought the find was one of the most well-known bags, perhaps a Kelly or a Hermes Birkin. These products are not only among the most expensive on the earth, but they are also so scarce that you cannot simply stroll into a store and buy one or the other. According to Madison Avenue Couture, Hermes creates just a limited quantity of bags to ensure exclusivity.
