Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki's 19-year-old son, Marco Troper, found dead in his UC Berkeley dorm. Cause of death remains unknown

Marco Troper, the 19-year-old son of former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, was found dead in his dormitory at the University of California this week. US authorities responded to reports of an unresponsive student at the Clark Kerr dorms on the UC Berkeley campus, where Troper was discovered.

Despite efforts by the Berkeley Fire Department to administer life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead. “Berkeley Fire Department notified UCPD that they were attempting life-saving measures on the victim,” the University of California Police Department explained in a statement, according to the New York Post. “UCPD responded, and Berkeley Fire Department pronounced the person deceased.”

The exact cause of Troper’s death remains unknown at this time, and campus police have indicated that there are no signs of foul play. However, Troper’s grandmother, Esther Wojcicki, suspects that he may have died from a drug overdose. “He ingested a drug, and we don’t know what was in it. … One thing we do know, it was a drug,” she told media outlet SFGATE.

The family is awaiting a toxicology report to shed light on the circumstances surrounding his death, according to US media reports. Described as a “loving” and “math genius” by his grandmother, Troper was a freshman majoring in mathematics and had just begun his second semester at UC Berkeley. Despite his academic pursuits, Troper was actively engaged in campus life, with a strong circle of friends in his dorm at Stern Hall and his involvement in the Zeta Psi fraternity.

Troper’s grandma Esther took to Facebook to express the family’s devastation. She fondly remembered Troper as “the most kind, loving, smart, fun, and beautiful human being.” “He had a strong community of friends from his dorm at Stern Hall and his fraternity Zeta Psi and was thriving academically. At home, he would tell us endless stories of his life and friends at Berkeley. Marco’s life was cut too short. And we are all devastated, thinking about all the opportunities and life experiences that he will miss and we will miss together. Marco, we all love you and miss you more than you will ever know,” she wrote.
