Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections was an emotional one for him because it was his first election after his mother’s death.

“Today is an emotional moment for me. It was my first election after my mother’s death. But the mothers, sisters and daughters of the country never let me feel the absence of my mother,” PM Modi said, while addressing the party workers at the BJP headquarters.
PM Modi started his victory speech with ‘Jai Jagannath’ and thanked people of Odisha for giving a clear mandate to the BJP to form its government for the first time in the state. He also thanked party workers in Kerala for sacrificing their lives in the state as the party opened its account in the state.
He said people have shown full confidence in the BJP and the NDA and the Lok Sabha elections results were a victory of the people, democracy and faith in the country’s Constitution.
“After 1962, for the first time a government has won the mandate for a third consecutive term,” Modi said.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President J P Nadda were also present at the BJP headquarters where the backdrop had ‘Thank You India’ written in many languages.
The Prime Minister won his third successive election from Varanasi, defeating Congress candidate Ajay Rai by a margin of over 1.5 lakh votes. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is ahead on 293 seats, while the INDIA bloc is leading in 232 seats. The BJP is leading or won 240 seats.
