Serving Pakistan Army Lieutenant Colonel, 3 Family Members Abducted by TTP: Sources | Exclusive
Lieutenant Colonel Khalid, two of his brothers, and a nephew were allegedly abducted while attending a family funeral in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province

A serving Pakistani army lieutenant colonel and several members of his family have purportedly been abducted, sources told CNN-News18 on Thursday.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has released a video of Lieutenant Colonel Khalid and AC (Cantonment) Asif.

In the video, both officers are requesting that the demands of the TTP be met to ensure their safety and secure their release.

They also ask not to make a hue and cry about the issue on social media and defame the TTP.

Khalid, Asif, and two more people were abducted by armed men in the Kulachi tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan district in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The others have been Fahad and Abrar. All three are close relatives of the lieutenant colonel, said sources.

Lieutenant Colonel Khalid, two of his brothers, and a nephew were abducted while attending a family funeral, security sources told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Radio Mashaal.

The TTP claimed responsibility for the abduction in a message to Radio Mashaal, adding that those taken were safe.

The incident comes after the Pakistani government launched an operation against militants that it says are infiltrating from neighbouring Afghanistan.
