US Capitol Riots: Donald Trump Calls Jan 6 A ‘Day Of Love’
Trump claimed that thousands of protesters had stormed the Capitol Building because “they thought the election was a rigged election” and not because of him.

Former US President and Republican Party candidate Donald Trump has said that January 6, 2021 was a “day of love” and nothing wrong happened during Capitol riots. He made the remarks after a Republican supporter confronted him about the incident, during a town hall event in Florida on Wednesday.

Trump further claimed that thousands of protesters had stormed the Capitol Building because “they thought the election was a rigged election” and not because of him. He also insisted that he had called for peaceful protests.

“Nothing done wrong at all,” the Republican presidential candidate said, as reported by CNN, adding that “strong action” was taken.

The former President further rebutted the reports of armed rioters and said, “There were no guns down there, we didn’t have guns, the others had guns, but we didn’t have guns.”

Trump also criticised his former Vice President Mike Pence for certifying Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory. “I totally disagreed with him on what he did,” he said.

What Happened on Jan 6?

The January 6 attack on the US Capitol in 2021 saw thousands of Donald Trump supporters storm the building in an unprecedented manner.

The attack disrupted a joint session of Congress convened to certify the results of the presidential election of 2020, which Trump had lost to his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden. Five people died in connection with the riot, including a police officer.

Rioters, many carrying Trump flags and wearing MAGA gear, smashed windows, ransacked offices and clashed violently with police. Some chanted threats against politicians.

While delivering remarks outside the White House on January 6, Trump told the crowd, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”

Trump was re-indicted in August for his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election results during the Capitol insurrection.
