The action-packed film – Fighter, directed by Siddharth Anand, is making waves in cinemas, captivating audiences, and earning acclaim from critics. The action drama stars Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. In a recent interview with a prominent media outlet, Siddharth shared insights into the motivations behind his shift from the romantic comedy genre to action. He expressed exhaustion within the rom-com genre, especially after directing Anjaana Anjaani, which starred Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.
Speaking to Pinkvilla, Siddharth shared, “Now, I can’t make a normal movie. I’m bored of repeating myself. I think that happened to me when I made Anjaana Anjaani. I felt like I had become a bit tired of the rom-com genre.”
He further continued, “Anjaana Anjaani was my 4th film in the genre, and at that time, I just made that film almost like autopilot because I knew exactly what to do at every step. And that’s when I realized I was getting a bit burnt out in this genre.”
On his shift to the action genre with the film Bang Bang, Siddharth emphasises his commitment to continuous self-challenge within the action domain. He elaborated, “I don’t want that burnout, and I want to do something different every time. I am the only director in the country who has made so many action franchises. I could’ve had opportunities to do sequels of all my franchises but I’ve chosen to make original films every time. I just don’t want to find that comfort space that I felt in Anjaana Anjaani.”
Anjaana Anjaani features Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in the roles of two suicidal strangers who serendipitously cross paths and decide to embark on a unique journey with a pact to end their lives in 20 days, specifically on New Year’s Eve. However, as they earnestly work through their bucket list in the countdown to their planned demise, an unexpected twist unfolds, leading the pair to discover love amidst their shared experiences.
The film also features Zayed Khan, Vishal Malhotra, Joy Sengupta, Pooja Kumar, Tanvi Azmi, Kumar Pallana, Nakul Kamte, and Sucheta Khanna. While reviews were mixed, the movie turned out to be a commercial success.
Siddharth Anand’s most recent directorial venture, Fighter was released in theaters on January 25.
