Sensex, Nifty flat; Sesa up 2 per cent, Ashok Leyland hits new high
Sesa Sterlite, Axis Bank, HDFC, SBI and ICICI Bank were top gainers while Gail, M&M, Coal India, Maruti and Bajaj Auto were among the laggards.

Mumbai: The market closed flat dragged by some bit of profit booking. The Nifty consolidated at around 8300.

The 50-share index ended at 8324, up 1.95 points while Sensex was down 5.45 points at 27860.38. Sesa Sterlite, Axis Bank, HDFC, SBI and ICICI Bank were top gainers while Gail, M&M, Coal India, Maruti and Bajaj Auto were among the laggards.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,943.04 points, was trading at 27,948.61 points in the early session, up 82.78 points or 0.30 percent from the previous day's close at 27,865.83 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 27,969.82 points and a low of 27,920.45 points in the trade so far.

The S&P IT index gained 124.43 points, capital goods index moved up by 87.54 points and healthcare index got augmented by 77.67 points. However, auto index dropped by 211.70 points.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was trading 5.70 points or 0.07 percent up at 8,327.90 points.
