Unstoppable, undeniable, inimitable: ‘Boom Boom’ Jasprit Bumrah left his mark all over the field as India marched to a dominant 8-wicket win over Ireland.
India bundled out Ireland for 96 runs as Arshdeep Singh started off the proceedings to help India with two wickets in the powerplay. Hardik Pandya took charge after the first six overs as he picked up three wickets to return to form.
Jasprit Bumrah was at his absolute best as he managed to take two wickets through the final stages and finished with figures of 2/6 in 3 overs, as the ace pacer clinched the Player of the Match award.
“Coming from India, with the ball seaming around, I wouldn’t complain when there’s help for bowlers. In this format you have to adapt to the conditions, you have to be proactive,” stated Bumrah in a post-match interview.
“Trying to stick to the plans and trying to go back to what has worked for me. You always want to cover all the bases in these conditions. You got to be prepared, very happy with the outing today,” added the pacer.
The Men in Blue chased down the target with 46 deliveries to spare as skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front with his unbeaten fifty, while Rishabh Pant added 36 runs to put the finishing touches on the game in 12.2 overs.
Rohit, especially, starred with the bat, as he set out to take to the Irishmen, who had set a meagre target of 97. Despite the departure of talisman batter Virat Kohli, the skipper stood in place and continued to lead the Indian attack, as he notched on the runs in a precautious yet timely manner.
With his fifty today, Rohit became just the second batter in history to score 4000+ runs across all three formats of the game, right after Virat Kohli, and also the third batter to cross 1000 runs in the T20 World Cup.
