Seven persons, accused for allegedly looting vehicles, were arrested after an encounter broke out with the crime branch of the local police at Noorpur road, police said.
Acting on a tip off, the police on Sunday intercepted their vehicle and asked it to stop. However, the accused tried to flee away following which the gunfight ensued between the two sides.
A truck, two SUVs and fire arms including four pistols and two knives were recovered from their possession, police said. Those arrested include gang leaders Furqan, Ahmad, Salman, Umar Mohammad, Atiq, Rifaqat and Naeem, Senior Superintendent of Police Rajesh Krishna said.
The police is probing their links and prospective buyers.
