AIEMA holds mega Kabaddi tourney

Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers association organised a mega kabaddi tournament as part of its golden jubilee celebrations.

Sixty-three teams from Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur participated in the school and open categories, said chairman of AIEMA technology centre K Sai Sathya Kumar and P S Ramesh, president of AIEMA. The total prize money was Rs 1.5 lakh and the winner in boys and girls’ category in schools received a cash prize of Rs 10,000.

Similarly, winners in the men and womens’ categories received a cash prize of Rs 20,000. “We chose kabbadi because we wanted to popularise this Indian sport,” said Kumar.

He said AIEMA, which has 850 members, was planning a year-long celebration which will begin from July 2013. “We are planning to invite Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for the function,” said Kumar.

The prizes were distributed by M Easwaran, commandant, Tamil Nadu State Police Battalion 15, and S Sivagnanam, Director of MSME Development Institute.
