Kerala clinched the overall title at the 36th National Arm Wrestling Championship held at the Aquatic Complex in Thrissur. The Kerala squad emerged winners with 249 points, leaving behind Assam and Punjab with 170 and 31 points, respectively.
In the men’s category, the champion of champions title was won by V A Jabir of Kerala.
While Hareender Singh of Punjab won the title in the senior men +105 kg category, A U Shaju of Kerala became the winner in the senior men 105 kg category. Kannan of Pondicherry bagged the 95 kg men category. Sandeep Pathra of Assam, Maneendra Singh of Assam, Naheera Chouhan of Uttar Pradesh and Parveender Palha of Punjab bagged the top honours in senior girls, junior boys, junior girls and masters categories respectively.
Actor Abu Saleem gave away the prizes to the winners. Over 500 participants in 35 different age and weight categories competed in the championship. The meet was organised by the Kerala Arm Wrestling Association under the auspices of Indian Arm Sport Federation. District panchayat president K V Dasan presided over the concluding ceremony.
