Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday assured that appropriate action will be taken against those responsible for recently attacking journalists on the campus of local railway station.
Chouhan, who arrived here to participate in a private programme, was shown the video footage of the attack on media persons following which he assured them (media) that appropriate action will be taken in the matter.
On April 26, a group of mediapersons had a dispute with a parking contractor's employees over a trivial matter following which they, along with others, reached the Government Railway Police (GRP) police station premises demanding that police should arrest the contractor's men. However, when the GRP refused to do so, they had a heated argument with the policemen following which the journalists were allegedly beaten up by the police personnel in a brutal manner, causing serious injuries to five scribes.
Police have so far arrested five accused, including three policemen and two employees of the contractor, in this regard while search is on trace one more policeman involved in the case. Media organisations have been demanding registration of a case under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC against the accused in this regard and also suspension of GRP station in-charge.
Railway SP RC Burra told PTI that the arrested policemen were identified as head constable Punjalal, and constables Vinod and Devendra. Constable Jitendra will be arrested after he comes back from his duties, he said. The other two arrested were identified as Sanjay Bhat and Babu Bhat and are the employees of the parking contractor, he added.
Meanwhile, the GRP station in-charge has been attached to the Railway headquarters, Bhopal, with immediate effect.
