KOLLAM: A casual onlooker would have taken it for yet another pompous wedding of some rich businessman’s or a politician’s daughter that was going on at the C Kesavan Memorial Town Hall here. The presence of people’s representatives, businessmen, top government officials, a sumptuous feast for hundreds of guests and a concert would have all supported his assumption.However, hogging the limelight on the day were Ambili and Bindhu, two inmates of Social Welfare Department-run Mahila Mandiram inmates who tied the nuptial knot on Thursday, thanks to the generosity of Kollam Corporation, Y’s Men International and Social Welfare Department.Ambili tied the knot with S Ratheesh of Karicode, an employee of Beverages Corporation, while Bindhu found a partner in Fenny George of Mamoottilkadavu, who is working as a receptionist in a hotel. The brides were given five sovereigns each by the Y’s Men International, South West India Region Zone II, members.The couples were blessed by P K Gurdasan MLA, SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappalli Natesan, District Collector P G Thomas, Mayor Prasanna Earnest, district governor of Y’s Men Internatinal Munroethuruthu Rajan, District Social Welfare Officer S Josekumar and Mahila Mandiram chairman P Noushad among others.For the two women it was not just the magnanimity of those who arranged their wedding that touched them, but the largesse of the hearts of the two young men who consented to marry them.“I am indebted to Fenny chettan and his mother for accepting me. I never expected such a fortune in my life,” said Bindhu. Fenny who is just over 4 feet in height has acted in the film ‘Albhuthadweepu’.Mahila Mandiram chairman P Nousad said that a thorough background check was done on the bridegrooms and their families before fixing the marriage.
