In a veiled attack on BJP, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday accused Raman Singh government of doing little for the development of the state and welfare of its people inspite of being provided funds by central government.
"Congress will develop the state 36 times faster than the BJP," she said.
"The people ruling Chattisgarh are not dedicated to the development of the poor. BJP has not given priority to the development as it should have been. Law and order has deteriorated. Women are living in fear," she said.
Voicing concerns about the dismal state of the tribals, she said the BJP government has been cheating on them. "Tribals have not been given their rights on their own land. Poverty and unemployment is on the rise in rural and tribal areas of Chattisgarh," she said.
Yet again, she recounted the May 25 Jagdalpur killings that had swiped out the senior state Congress leadership. "Chattisgarh govt has been assisted by central govt to fight Naxalism. What have they done to curb Naxal menace. What happened with the Congress leaders in Chattisgarh a few months back is very shameful for the state BJP govt," she said.
"Our government will provide 35 kg rice for free, electricity water bills will come down, will provide rehabilitation for farmers and tribals whose lands have been snatched away," assured Sonia Gandhi.
