CID likely to probe journalists death

The government or Director General of Police is likely to announce the handing over of the investigation into the suspicion death of Linganna Satyampet, a litterateur and journalist from Bellary, to Crime Investigation Department (CID), highly placed sources in the Police Department told Express on Monday at Bangalore.

The local police, who arrested two watchmen of Sharanabasaveshwara temple of Brahmapur here on the charges of robbery and hiding the body of Satyampet, are yet to come to any conclusion on whether it was a murder or natural death as they have not received final postmortem report from Bellary Forensic Laboratory.

However, various organisations and the family members of the deceased are exerting pressure on the government to hand over the investigation to CBI as local police and CID were seen as two faces of the same coin.

But it is alleged that due to the unsaid rule of the ruling party that no BJP governments should recommend any cases to CBI, Karnataka government has decided to entrust the investigation of suspicious death of Linganna Satyampet to CID and would be announcing the decision, sources said.
