A cleanliness awareness campaign will also be initiated as a part of the drive which will continue till October 23.

"The cleanliness drive should inspire all agencies to keep the city clean round the year, it is our duty to our fellow citizens," said Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung, who held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the arrangements for the same.

The idea is also to involve the citizens, including members of RWAs, traders associations, market associations, industrial associations, youth, school children in the drive.

"Citizens should come forward and participate wholeheartedly in helping us keep the city clean," Jung said.

Commissioners of the corporations briefed Jung about the steps being taken as part of the sanitation drive. The drive will also cover industrial areas and it is estimated that more than 600 trucks of rubble and garbage lying there will be removed during this period.

Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has been asked to make special efforts to clear garbage and rubble from its vacant plots, which are more than 1,000 in number.

It was also asked to pay particular attention to biodiversity and other parks maintained by it.

There will be special emphasise on repair and renovation of toilets, providing sewer and water connection and construction of new toilets, specially for women, said the official.
