Eight Naxals today surrendered before the police in the insurgency-hit Kondgaon district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

This takes the number of Naxals who quit the movement and surrendered in the Bastar region of the state this month to 28. Some of them are of commander-rank. 20 surrendered in Kondagaon district alone.

The Naxals who surrendered on Monday were fed up with the "exploitation and excesses" which senior leaders subjected them as well as the local villagers to, said Kondagaon Additional Superintendent of Police Surjit Atri.

Those who surrendered today are: Saanu (25), Gagru (50), Ganjo (55) and Aaytu (35) who were members of Barda `local operation squad'; Satau Naag (26), Daya Kalar (22) and Mansharam (30) who were active in Kulanaar region; Shobhrai (33) who was active in Barda region.

All of them were active in the Naxal movement for some 10 years and were involved in blasts, attacks on government installations, arson, etc, Atri told PTI.

He said these cadres claimed that senior Naxal leaders from Andhra Pradesh sexually exploited tribal women and girls, and also extorted money from locals.
