CHENNAI: Director General of Police K Ramanujam presented the K Mohandas Memorial Award to Walter I Devaram, a former DGP , on Thursday evening.The award was constituted in memory of the late K Mohandas IPS by the NGO B Force, run by his daughters. Delivering the special address on the occasion, DGP K Ramanujam recalled the days he worked with Mohandas. "The experience I gained working with Mohandas on 'Operation Tiger' which vanquished Sri Lankan Tamil Militants in Tamil Nadu over night is very much alive in my memory,” he said and added, "The very mention of his name still raises many eyebrows among police officers.” He also went on to mention that the name of former DGP Devaram is equally hallowed among police officers across the country.“Tamil Nadu doesn't figure in the map of red corridor, it is only due to the two operations- the naxal operation and Operation Tiger - planned and executed by Mohandas and Devaram successfully,” he said.He also appreciated the efforts taken by the four daughters of Mohandas to run B Force and help the poor with health-related issues. Speaking earlier on the occasion, after receiving the K Mohandas memorial award, Waltar I Devaram said that Mohandas had set a milestone in Intelligence Operations in Tamil Nadu, annihilating the naxals in the state.Also present at the event was actor Arjun who said that he was humbled and honoured to be a part of the occasion. Akhila Srinivasan, Honorary Consul, Netherlands and MN Shriram of the Life Insurance Co Ltd were also present in support of Devaram. Families of police officials also took part in the event.
