GANGAVATHI: It is the biggest event of the year for a small place like Gangavathi. The 78th Akhil Bharat Kannada Sahitya Sammelan (ABKSS) is the greatest crowd-puller and eagerly-awaited literary fest for the lovers of Kannada literature. From December 9-11, all roads will lead to Sri Channabasava Taluk Stadium.Thousands of people are expected to attend the various activities and lectures during the three-day mega event, showcasing the best of Kannada language and literature. Organisers have spread the message among college students and made them aware of the rich heritage of Kannada art, culture and society. A contingent of student-volunteers followed the float everywhere, and the organisers have involved them in various activities.The spirited singing by the students was so much liked by the organisers. “It was exhilarating! We put up a lot of effort to co-ordinate with organisers. We feel very happy by this honour,” said a music teacher, who is training students to sing state anthem “Jai Bharata jananiya tanu jaate...”.For the next three days, there will be no sounds of rice mills and spinning mills here. “As most of the workers wished to watch the event, our owner declared a holiday,” said Ramesh Marali, manager in a local rice mill.Roads have been decorated with banners having portraits of Kannada writers and sayings about Kannada. The enthusiasm of the people in the city is so much that all schools and colleges have given their buildings to representatives.The district administration has deputed over 2,000 teachers for Sammelan work from Thursday. Officials apprised them of their responsibilities in Maratha Bhavan.
