Ex J&K CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed condemns tourist attacks saying they are against the state’s peace and development.

Jammu: Strongly condemning attacks on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir, former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said such acts are against peace and development in the state on Saturday.

"Such acts are the work of vested interests who do not want lasting peace in Kashmir," he said.

"Restoration of peace is necessary as it alone will lead to development in the state which has witnessed turmoil for more than one and half decades, said Sayeed,

Sayeed is also patron of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) that rules Kashmir in a coalition with the Congress.

Appealing to people to foil the designs of such vested elements, Sayeed urged the militants to contribute to the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue, so that lasting peace is achieved in the state.

He said that the Centre has shown tremendous flexibility on the issue of restoring peace in the state and it is essential that this initiative now be consolidated.

"The times have thrown up an opportunity for all of us to achieve the goal of lasting peace in the state and it is our duty not to let this opportunity go waste," he said

He added that his party would not hesitate to play a positive role in facilitating the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.

Describing the roundtable conference in Srinagar as a step in the right direction, Sayeed criticised the BJP for not participating in the meeting.
