BANGALORE: Taking a break from the raging Space controversy, former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief G Madhavan Nair launched the second phase of his Meet the Young Souls (MYS) in Salalah (Oman) on Wednesday. At the Indian School in Salalah (ISS), Nair is said to have passionately spoken about India’s space programmes and its significance in making India a developed nation. The ISS celebrating its 30th year of service to the community this year and chose Nair as the ‘Personality of the Year’.The event held at the Salalah College of Technology Auditorium, Nair interacted with the students between classes 10-12. “I am proud to be an Indian and we excelled in all spheres despite a series of global problems. This shows the growing stature of India and her confidence in taking on the challenges,” Nair told the audience, according to a release from ISS.Paying rich tributes his mentor Vikram Sarabhai and guru A P J Abdul Kalam, the Indian’s Moon Man said that but for their support, he would not have climbed higher echelons in life. “Don’t get hooked to textbooks alone. You must, excel in all fields. You must be inquisitive, innovative and ever willing to serve the society,” Nair said.According to ISS officials, Nair was extremely relaxed and answered all queries at ease. When asked about the mission, that is closer to his heart, Nair said, “Definitely Chandrayaan. It put India among the elite nations capable of reaching the Moon.”
