Bhopal: The assault by the sand mafia seems to have hit again with an alleged attempt made by them to set a Deputy Forest Ranger on fire in Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh.

The deputy forest ranger has escaped with injuries and has been admitted in a local hospital.

No arrests have been made so far though a case has been filed against the accused and the police have started the investigation.

Illegal mining and sand activities are rampant across the state. A police constable was killed in 2013 when he was trying to chase the sand mafia in Madhya Pradesh.

Despite such cases recurring time and again, no significant action has been taken as yet.

The Madhya Pradesh Police had arrested an alleged sand mafia kingpin and former dacoit Kuber Singh in connection with the firing on policemen and other officials on Friday. And in a related development, contracts of 14 sand mines allegedly indulging in illegal mining have also been cancelled.
