A Naxal was arrested by a joint team of security personnel in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Kondgaon district, a day ahead of the Independence day celebrations, police said.
"Jan militia cadre Ramnath alias Billu (27) was apprehended from his native place Rengagodi under Bayanar police station limits," Kondagaon Additional Superintendent of Police Surjit Atri told PTI.
Based on specific inputs about the arrival of Billu at his home in Rengagodi, a joint squad of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) and district force was mobilised in the region, located around 250 kms away from the state capital.
After surrounding the village, the security forces rounded him up, the ASP said.
"Billu, who has been an active member of the Rengagodi Jan Militia since 2011, is believed to be involved in several criminal acts, including loot, arson, murder, attacks on the police party etc.," the ASP said.
The security has been notched up in the region, with intensified patrolling and search operations, ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.
