New Delhi: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev is in the line of fire again. After being served a notice by the Health Ministry for a statement in which he "claimed that he could cure AIDS", an NGO has threatened to sue him.
The NGO, People's Health Organisation (PHO) has said that they will take legal action against Ramdev if he does not backtrack on his statement.
Baba Ramdev had on Monday refused to reply to the Health Ministry's notice, saying that his statement on AIDS was wrongly represented by the media.
He asserted that he never claimed that AIDS can be cured through Yoga and added that he had only said cancer could be cured and in the case of AIDS, Yoga could result in marked improvement.
"Though Ramdev has been successful in popularising the importance of yoga, he has developed a habit of exceeding his brief by declaring a cure on HIV. The PHO has appealed to the government to stop this 'unstoppable' baba," a release from the People's Health Organisation read.
"It would be far-fetched and misguiding to claim that a cure for AIDS would be found through yoga in the next couple of years. Such statements mislead the masses and undo the undeterred efforts put in by social activists, volunteers and organisations to check the spread of the epidemic," the release added.
PHO has appealed to the authorities to look into the matter and said it would sue him if action was not taken.
