Police top brass took stock of the security situation at Malkangiri on Tuesday in the wake of the Martyrs Week.
BSF Inspector-General S K Sood, South-Western range Police DIG S Devadatta Singh, Koraput-based BSF DIG Akhileswar Singh visited the Maoist strongholds of Chitrakonda and Motu and held discussions with police and paramilitary forces.
Later, in a closed door meeting, the officials urged security personnel to extend helping hand to tribals to redress their grievances while acting tough against the rebels.
The cops left for Koraput on Wednesday morning where they also reviewed the security measures taken to avoid any untoward situation during the Martyrs Week.
Paikmal (Bargarh): Normal life was hit in four panchayats in Maoists-infested Paikmal block on the fourth day of the bandh on Wednesday. All government offices, commercial establishments and markets remained closed in Jamseth, Mandosil, Bartunda and Chindekela panchayats and vehicles remained off the road. Sources said two days back, the Maoists had held a meeting where villagers were urged to observe the Martyrs Week.
