Ahead of the proposed Assembly session, scheduled later this week, Uttarakhand police have instructed officials concerned to maintain peace and ensure “flawless security” in their respective districts.
This order comes amid the possibility of protests that are expected to be staged by few organisations against the presentation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill in the Assembly.
According to Uttarakhand’s Headquarters Director General of Police, AP Anshuman, Additional Director General of Police, Crime and Law and Order conducted a meeting on Thursday with the circle and district in-charges and Chief Security Officer through video conference, in view of the upcoming assembly session.
The five-member expert committee had earlier said that it will submit UCC draft to the government on February 2, following which it will be placed before the cabinet and later in the Assembly.
On Monday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said bringing UCC in the state was their electoral promise.
