The retrenched government employees who were engaged by the previous Congress government on Wednesday took out a rally along with their family members and Opposition Congress leaders including Leader of Opposition V Vaithilingam and former ministers, seeking their reinstatement.
It may be noted that after the N R Congress government assumed office, about 4,500 part time and government voucher employees were retrenched citing paucity of funds.
Following agitations, the Chief Minister assured that all the retrenched employees belonging to Puducherry would be reinstated. However, nothing had materialised so far.
Demanding their immediate reinstatement, they started their procession from the Swadeshi Cotton Mills. Though initially they planned to have a mock ‘funeral’ procession with a man lying as dead, later they refrained from it as police objected to it.
After passing through the thoroughfares of the town, the procession reached the Ambur Saalai near Legislative Assembly where police stopped them. A demonstration was organised criticising the AINRC government led by Chief minister N Rangasamy and demanding their reinstatement.
